Your puppy needs a daily routine

Consistency is the key to managing a Chihuahua puppy, and that means that the daily routine you follow with him or her should be the same day after day. This includes a lot of things, such as the feeding hours, the times when the puppy is taken outside, the times when you play with him or her, and so on. Make sure that you leave nothing out and that you are always in charge.

Use the right words with the correct body language

Dogs, in general, are easier to train than other pets because they are intelligent and, to some extent, they can understand us. For training a Chihuahua puppy the right way, don’t forget to use words when you desire or, on the contrary, you are upset with specific behaviors.

For instance, if your puppy has a small accident inside the house, say ‘no’ in a firm voice, not too loud, but not too soft, either. Also, make sure that your body language is in agreement with your words. When you praise your puppy for doing something right, a bit of petting is much recommended.

Use treats only for tricks

Chihuahuas need to eat often enough, and because they consume their energy more than other dogs, they might get convinced with treats to behave well. However, be aware that such a tactic can lead to overfeeding, and that is never a good thing for a dog, no matter how big or small.

Teach your puppy to love his or her crate

In case you’ll be away from home for a few hours, it is highly advisable that you put your puppy in a crate or a bordered area so that you don’t get back home to a home that needs a thorough cleaning from one end to another.

A good idea would be to get a crate and use that for the times you are away. Do not use the crate to punish your puppy. What you want is to create a safe environment for your puppy so that he or she will find it an excellent place to stay.
